How FakePip works

Simple math. Honest about the limits.

FakePip is a free planning tool. It turns a few numbers into clear scenarios. It cannot predict what your employer will do, and it does not replace professional advice.

The core calculation

Your runway is how many months your savings can cover your bills. We take your savings and divide by your monthly gap. The monthly gap is your essential bills minus any income that keeps coming in after the job ends. The worst case uses your savings without adding severance. The realistic case adds any estimated severance, then uses the same calculation.

To estimate severance, we turn your monthly take home pay into a weekly amount, then multiply by the number of severance weeks. In short: monthly pay × 12 ÷ 52 × severance weeks. If your ongoing income covers your essential bills, the model shows an indefinite runway while that income and spending stay the same.

What counts and what does not

Savings means money you can reach within about a week. Leave out your home, car, retirement accounts, and anything that is slow, costly, or risky to sell.

Essential costs are the bills you need to keep life running. You decide what counts as essential for you. The tool does not include taxes, interest on debt, benefit rules, investment ups and downs, exchange rates, or surprise emergencies.

Views for longer periods

For longer runways, an optional view models your balance month by month. It assumes a steady yearly return and steady yearly price rises. Real returns are never steady, so treat these as examples only, not forecasts or investment advice.

How the guides are written

The guides are written for a real person with a real task. We check important facts, show dates honestly, and avoid advice tied to one country unless we say so. We do not invent authors, reviewers, or qualifications.

Anything about work rights, separation agreements, tax, benefits, mental health, or visas is general only. For a choice with legal or money effects, speak to a qualified local professional.

PDF privacy

Your browser makes the PDF with its own print tool. The personal version shows the amounts from your result. The private sharing version hides exact amounts and sensitive location or visa details, but keeps your rounded runway, dates, and action steps.
